Steve arrived at SHCC December 1, 2010.  He was born and raised in southern Ohio.  He graduated from Kentucky Christian University 1983.  He spent over 20 yrs working with abused, neglected and abandoned children at Christian Children’s Home of Ohio.  Most of that time he served as the Director of Advancement.  Steve and his beautiful wife Joan have two children, Corina (CJ) and Ryan.  Steve has a passion for preaching, teaching, and evangelism.  He enjoys golf, biking, and motorcycles.  Most importantly, Steve loves people!



Scott was born and raised in Indianapolis and attended several different churches growing up. He gave his life to Christ at the Circle City Church of Christ in 1984. Their campus ministry and teaching approach to services drew him in and he’s continued his walk since then, later becoming a member of Northview Church and in 2016 became a member at Southport Heights.

Scott has worked as a Deacon, a Children’s Ministry small group leader, a Communications Ministry leader and Mission’s Team member, as well as an adult Sunday school teacher– all at Southport Heights.

Scott met his wife Joy while they were both serving in the Army at Fort Drum in New York. They have two grown children– Jonathan and James. Scott has a Bachelor’s degree from Purdue University; Joy a Bachelor’s Degree from Indiana University. Scott started his career in Computer Support and eventually branched out into technical Project Management. He holds a Project Management Professional certification from PMI.



Brent and Stacy joined Southport Heights Christian Church in October 2001.  Brent has served as an Elder since January 2018 and prior to that he served as a Deacon since November 2005.  He served as the Communion Preparation Team Chairman for many years and has helped teach various bible study classes.

Brent has been married to Stacy since 1987 and they have one daughter, Jillian, and one grandson, Carter.  They met at IUPUI where Brent received his BS degree in geology and Stacy earned her BS degree in Supervision Technology.

When Brent isn’t serving at SHCC he’s working as a professional geologist, which has been his career for 30-years.  He currently works for SESCO Group, an environmental consulting firm, where he holds the position of Chief Operating Officer.



Jerry worked in law enforcement for over 35 years. He served the Merrillville Police department for twenty years—twelve of those as Chief of Police. After Merrillville, Jerry was the Director fo the Indiana Highway Safety and the Commission for a Drug-Free Indiana.

Jerry was baptized in July of 1981 at Merrillville Christian Church. There he served as a Deacon, Financial Secretary and Elder. He additionally served on the Finance Committee and as an Elder while at New Beginnings Church in Franklin, IN.

Jerry and his wife Carolyn met while working for the Indiana State Police. They married on May 12, 1973 and have one daughter, Melissa (graduate of Purdue University) who is married to Ron Hittel. They have two sons—Sam (13) and Max (9).

Carolyn worked for over twenty years as a secretary for the Indiana State Police and is currently a volunteer at St. Francis Hospital.

Today, Jerry and Carolyn enjoy spending time with their family when not involved with activities at SHCC.



Hugh Meyer was baptized at First Christian Church in Columbus, Indiana on October 9, 1966. About one year after that, the Meyer family moved to Indianapolis and Hugh became a member at Southport Heights Christian Church on October 15, 1967.

Hugh has served as an Elder at SHCC since 1996 and prior to that served as a deacon since 1981. Hugh and Debbie were married in 1980. Besides being an Elder and Deacon during that time, Hugh taught various Sunday school classes, served as Property Committee Chairman, was Chairman of the building committee in 1990, served on the Worship Ministry Team, Finance Ministry, Music Ministry, and is currently chairman of the AV Ministry team.

Hugh graduated in 1978 from Purdue University, with a Bachelor Of Science in Business Marketing.

He received a public school education at Glens Valley Elementary School and graduated from Southport High School in 1974.

Hugh has worked in the family business, Meyer Material Handling, since 1978 and currently serves as the company vice president.

Debbie graduated from IU in 1977. In 1980 Debbie agreed to become Mrs. Debbie Meyer.  Debbie was brought up in the Plainfield Christian Church and joined Southport Heights in 1978. She is retired from the US Postal Service.

Besides being involved in Southport Heights, Hugh teaches at Ivy Tech Community College and was a past vice president of Indiana FIRST, a statewide organization that supports FIRST Robotics teams located in Indiana. He is currently a mentor for the Center Grove High School FIRST Robotics Team, Red Alert Robotics.



Ron and his wife, Deanna, met in High School and married during Ron’s Junior year at the Ohio State University.  They  have two children, Jeff (graduate of Purdue) and Alicia (graduate of Phoenix University).  Deanna has teaching degrees from Indiana University and taught for 30 years at Southport Elementary.  They have eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Ron has college degrees from the Ohio State University (BSc Agriculture Economics); Cincinnati Christian University (BSc Bible, MRE Christian Education and Preaching); University of Indianapolis (Masters Business Admin)

Ron is a veteran of the US Army having served in Viet Nam with the 101st Airborne Division Airmobile as their Petroleum Supply Officer.

Ron worked as a Sales Rep for the Exxon Corp. in Milwaukee for five years before attending Cincinnati Bible College and Seminary.  Ron and Deanna attended the Orchard St. Church of Christ in Milwaukee where Ron served as a Deacon and both Ron and Deanna served as Youth Sponsors.

Upon graduation from CBS in 1978, Ron became Youth and Education Minister here at Southport Heights.  In 1986 he became the preaching minister.  He ended his ministry in 1999 and became the Preaching Minister at Seerley Creek Christian Church on the southwest side of Indianapolis.  He retired from the active ministry in 2014 at Seerley Creek and transition from that ministry to Southport Heights in 2017.

Today, Ron and Deanna want to focus their energy on the educational ministry of the church, helping to train up the next generation of leaders and new Christians in the church.
